Advocacy

Uniting Common Causes for Maximum Impact

  • When we collaborate, we stand strong together. As we face another year of statewide challenges and budget cuts, VASC promotes the needs of counseling in school settings to enable student success.
  • VCA provides members with updates on crucial legislation through an experienced, paid lobbyist and organizes calls for action to make sure the counseling voice is heard.
  • In 2012 VCA was successful in advocating for the continued financial support of Virginia Career VIEW, the free website utilized by many school counselors to enhance student academic and career planning. We look forward to continue to promote other worthy causes.

Professional Development

Opportunities to Expand in Your Field

  • VCA continues to provide online training, discounted professional books and materials, workshops, conferences and other continuing education topics relevant to school counseling at convenient locations across the state with discounted rates for our members.
  • The annual VCA convention provides school counselors the chance to network with fellow counselors across the state, address relevant topics and earn recertification points in chosen sessions. The 2014 convention will be held at the Williamsburg Lodge from November 20-22.
  • We are the only state organization that can provide training for counselors working toward their LPC.

Connecting with Counselor Colleagues

  • VCA local chapters and divisions provide school counselors with a chance to network in your own backyard. Our chapter board members are committed to providing networking opportunities for school counselors in your area. Our divisions allow collaborative connections with other specialties to enhance the well-being of students.
  • VCA offers an informative newsletter for all members, sharing the latest in counselor news and resources five times a year.
  • VASC is working on ways for you to connect with counselors across the state. Look for new website resources that allow you to access a library of ideas, discounted books and materials, lesson planning, current job openings and networking through social media like Facebook.
